The new Polestar 4 SUV will add a rear window and a more practical cabin when it goes on sale later in 2026.

The next member of the Polestar 4 family has been teased, with the Swedish EV brand previewing a new SUV variant that's more practical than the existing coupe-inspired model – though it remains unconfirmed for New Zealand.
Despite Polestar calling it an SUV, the newcomer's long roofline and proportions appear closer to those of a traditional station wagon than a high-riding SUV.
The biggest change is found at the rear. Unlike the current Polestar 4, which controversially deleted the rear window in favour of a camera-based digital rear-view mirror, the new SUV adopts a conventional back window.

The taller, longer roofline also promises greater practicality, with Polestar claiming improved storage and cabin versatility for families and long-distance touring.
Under the skin, the Polestar 4 SUV rides on the same Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) electric vehicle platform as the existing Polestar 4, meaning buyers can expect familiar powertrain options.
Polestar has confirmed the line-up will include a rear-wheel drive single-motor variant capable of more than 630km of WLTP driving range, while dual-motor all-wheel drive versions will deliver around 400kW.

The SUV also adopts the same Model Year 2027 updates recently introduced to the Polestar 4 coupe, including revised suspension, new spring and damper tuning, updated anti-roll bars and recalibrated steering aimed at improving both ride comfort and handling.
Designed in Sweden and built at Polestar's Busan factory in South Korea, the new model will become the first Polestar sourced from the Korean plant for some right-hand-drive markets when global sales begin on September 2. Whether New Zealand joins that list remains to be seen.
Polestar New Zealand has yet to confirm local plans for the new variant. The brand's local line-up currently includes the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4 and the upcoming Polestar 5.

For now, Kiwi buyers can choose between two versions of the existing Polestar 4. The Long range Single motor starts from $99,990, while the Long range Dual motor is priced from $119,900.
If the SUV does make it here, it would offer buyers a more conventional and practical alternative to the existing Polestar 4, while retaining the same performance-focused electric underpinnings.
