Toyota's new CEO thinks the company has too many models

Toyota is New Zealand's leading automotive brand, having held the position of market leader for 37 consecutive years. Originally established in the country through local assembly plants in Christchurch and Thames, the brand transitioned to a full import model in 1998 and now operates its national headquarters from Palmerston North.
The current lineup is heavily focused on electrification, with popular models like the RAV4 and C-HR sold exclusively as hybrids, alongside a diverse range of vehicles including the Hilux ute and the all-electric bZ4X. Beyond new vehicle sales, Toyota maintains a significant presence in the used car market through its Signature Class refurbishment programme and supports a nationwide network of 60 stores. The company is also noted for its commitment to sustainability and community involvement through long-standing partnerships with organisations like the Department of Conservation.
