Volkswagen compact crossover to hit New Zealand dealerships shortly.

The multifaceted SUV line-up of German carmaker Volkswagen is poised to grow by one in a few months time, with the return of a compact nameplate.
A Volkswagen New Zealand representative confirmed to CarExpert NZ that the first examples of the brand’s latest generation T-Roc are set to arrive on our shores in June, with pricing and spec details imminent.
The brand still has stock of the outgoing T-Roc, in both its standard and hotted up T-Roc R.

Having debuted at last September’s Munich Motor Show, the new T-Roc sports a face similar to that of the 7-seater Tayron, but paired to the T-Roc’s signature proportions. It also gets a full width LED light bar and lit-up badge up front.
The T-Roc has grown 122mm in overall length and 28mm in wheelbase relative to its predecessor — a move that helps grow the model’s cabin.
Inside, the more minimalist dashboard layout slashes the T-Roc’s count of buttons, although thankfully it at least adds a few physical buttons onto the steering wheel (replacing the often complained about haptic feedback buttons from the last generation).

Like the Golf it shares its platform with, the T-Roc comes with either a 10.4-inch or 12.9-inch touchscreen, as well as a 10.0-inch digital cluster. The touchscreen still comes with touch functions underneath for volume and climate control adjustment.
Perhaps the most interesting interior update is the presence of a multi-function dial between the front seats. This works in the same way as the ‘Smart Dials’ we’ve seen adopted in numerous Skoda models. It controls functions like volume and the wind speed of the climate control, cycling between each function by clicking it downwards.
Overseas, the T-Roc is currently offered in three different trim levels; Life, Style, and R-Line. It isn’t known yet which trim levels will make it to New Zealand. And Volkswagen has yet to reveal a full fat R variant.

Likewise, we don’t yet know what powertrain options will make it here, either. In Europe, the model can be had with one of two mild hybrid options, two proper hybrids, or a still to be fleshed out 4Motion 2.0-litre.
The former pairing mate a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 48V hybrid system, with outputs rated at 85kW/220Nm in base models and 110kW/250Nm in more powerful variants.
The more advanced hybrids get a slightly different 1.5-litre engine, an electric motor, and a rear-mounted battery. Again, it is available in two power levels; a 100kW base and a 125kW flagship. Both options produce 306Nm of torque.
