After a slight delay, the New Zealand distributor of Smart has revealed pricing and local timing for the marque’s third model since it returned to our market; the #5.
The #5 (pronounced ‘hashtag five’) is the brand’s first mid-size SUV, and joins the already launched #1 and #3 compact crossovers. Along with being one of the most intriguingly styled entries to the premium SUV segment, the #5 also comes with an interesting cabin — underscored by two 13-inch OLED touchscreens that span the dashboard.
All models make use of a 100kWh battery pack with a peak range of 590km on the WLTP cycle. In keeping with its counterparts, the #5 is also set to be offered locally in a go-fast Brabus variant.

Model | Price not including on-road costs |
|---|---|
Smart #5 PRO+ | $79,990 |
Smart #5 Premium | $89,990 |
Smart #5 Brabus | $99,990 |
The three-trim range starts at $79,990 plus on-road costs for the #5 PRO+. Standard equipment includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, a 13-inch OLED touchscreen display, digital cluster, 360-degree camera, and more.
The mid-spec #5 Premium is priced at $89,990. It adds the second 13-inch screen for the passenger side, a head-up display, a 20-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, and more.
The PRO+ and Premium have slightly different mechanicals. Smart has yet to detail the power and torque ratings of the two models, but it notes that the Premium comes with an improved tow rating of 1600kg (braked). The Premium also gets the best electric range of the line-up — 590km to the PRO+’s 540km.

Finally, there’s the flagship $99,990 Brabus. Its dual-motor all-wheel drive layout produces 475kW of power and can sprint to 100kph in just 3.8 seconds. Similar to the Brabus variants of the #1 and #3, it gets Brabus styling highlights inside and out, led by plenty of red elements, Brabus bumpers, and larger wheels.
The #5’s launch had originally been slated for late 2025 by Smart distributors Auto Distributors New Zealand, but the model instead arrives in dealerships this month.
“The Smart #5 represents an important next step for the Smart brand in New Zealand,” said Arek Zywot, General Manager of Smart’s local operations.
“Customers are increasingly seeking premium electric SUVs that combine practicality, luxury, performance and advanced technology. The Smart #5 delivers a unique blend of all four, whether customers are looking for a refined long-range family vehicle or a high-performance flagship.
“The #5 is live on the Smart website and people who want to find out more, or register for a test drive, are invited to do so now.”
