Toyota New Zealand has issued a nationwide product safety recall affecting certain Highlander large SUVs due to the possibility their rear second-row seatbacks may not properly restrain occupants in the event of a collision.

The recall includes Toyota Highlander SUVs produced between March 2021 and November 2023.

"This recall is a precautionary measure to replace the rear seat reclining mechanism spring on certain New Zealand new Toyota Highlander vehicles," said Toyota in its recall notice.

"Toyota New Zealand has identified affected vehicles and is currently confirming owner details through registration data. Owners will be contacted directly by letter with further information and next steps."

Toyota New Zealand will contact the owners of all affected vehicles, but for further information you can contact your local Toyota dealer, or Toyota directly on 0800 TOYOTA (0800 869 682)

Alternatively you can search your registration number here https://www.toyota.co.nz/owners/recall/ to see if it is involved in the recall.
