BMW’s local arm has confirmed that its updated 7 Series is set to hit New Zealand showrooms in Q4 of this year, and it will be offered in both hybrid petrol and pure electric ‘i7’ trim.
Each powertrain has a single core variant; the 740 mild hybrid and the i7 60 xDrive. The pairing is priced from $277,900 and $306,900, respectively.

The 740 pairs a 48-volt hybrid system with BMW’s TwinPower 3.0-litre engine, producing 280kW of power and 580Nm of torque, and capable of taking the large luxury sedan to 100kph in 5.4 seconds.
The i7 60 xDrive meanwhile, essentially the nameplate’s mid-spec variant overseas, gets dual motors producing 400kW of power and 745Nm of torque. It is a smidge quicker to 100kph, taking just 4.8 seconds.

The i7’s powertrain is paired to a sixth generation 112.5kWh BMW eDrive battery pack, with a WLTP-rated range of 727km. With a peak charging speed of 250kW, it can be charged from 10–80% capacity in as little as 28 minutes according to BMW.
Standard equipment in the 740 includes heated and ventilated seats in both rows, BMW’s signature light-up front grille, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, massage seats, parking assist, soft-closing doors, and plenty more.

The i7, meanwhile, adds automatically closing doors, 21-inch wheels, adaptive chassis control, and BMW’s 8K widescreen ‘Theatre Screen’ set-up in the back seat — a feature previously not offered in New Zealand.
Inevitably, there are plenty of options for the new 7 Series. For an additional $12,900 on the 740 and as a no-cost option for the i7, customers can opt for a First Edition package that includes a merino wool and cashmere interior combination and two-tone paintwork.
And there are five wheel options spread across three different sizes (20-inch, 21-inch, and 22-inch), with the largest Individual 22-inch wheels a $4500 optional extra.
