Mazda MX-5 debuts new green metallic paint for 2026 update

Mazda has developed a new body colour, Zinc Green Metallic, which will make its debut on the Mazda MX-5 Roadster and RF in Japan before rolling out to other markets.

The new shade is described by Mazda as a modern green that combines toughness and refinement, while still blending into both urban and outdoor environments.

Mazda says the colour “takes its inspiration from the colour and texture of zinc chromate primer, an undercoat used to enhance the durability of industrial products”.

“In low-light conditions, its solid-like texture creates a tight, powerful impression, while in bright light, the delicate metallic sheen accentuates the body’s sculptural beauty, resulting in a sophisticated and modern overall appearance,” Mazda says.

“To achieve this effect, the colour formulation incorporates bluish metallic flakes, with optimised particle size and alignment to deliver a cool, refined tone.”

This is the first time the fourth-generation MX-5 has been offered with a dedicated green exterior colour.

The MX-5 Roadster and RF will be the first models to feature Zinc Green Metallic. While the update has been confirmed for Japan, Mazda has not detailed any other changes for the MX-5 lineup at this stage.

Mazda New Zealand says that local introduction timing for Zinc Green Metallic will be announced in due course.

The Mazda MX-5 is currently offered in Roadster GT and RF Limited models in six exterior colours, priced from $60,490 and $61,990 respectively, excluding on-road costs.

The MX-5 remains one of Mazda’s most enduring sports cars globally, with the current generation continuing to receive incremental updates, including special editions and new exterior colours aimed at keeping the model fresh in the sports car segment.
