Despite the lack of all-wheel drive or electric motors, Koenigsegg have made the world's fastest production car with a rear-wheel drive V8.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut has added another pair of records to its growing trophy cabinet, becoming the fastest production car ever over both the quarter-mile and half-mile.
The Swedish hypercar achieved the feat on June 6 at Koenigsegg’s test facility in Ängelholm, Sweden, with factory test driver Markus Lundh behind the wheel.
Using independent timing equipment from Racelogic, the Jesko Absolut crossed the quarter-mile mark at 305.39km/h, making it the first production vehicle to exceed 300km/h over the standing quarter-mile distance.
The car continued accelerating to a staggering 373.87km/h by the half-mile marker, securing a second production-car speed record in the same run.
Koenigsegg says the Jesko Absolut completed the quarter-mile in 8.54 seconds and the half-mile in 12.76 seconds, while also recording a 0-100km/h time of 2.35 seconds and a 0-300km/h sprint in just 8.3 seconds.
Those figures see the Jesko Absolut eclipse previous benchmarks set by the Rimac Nevera, which had established itself as the straight-line performance leader among production hypercars, while also outperforming recently published acceleration figures from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X.
What makes the achievement particularly notable is the lack of hybrid assistance or all-wheel drive. The Jesko Absolut sends power exclusively to its rear wheels, relying on a twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V8 and Koenigsegg’s nine-speed Light Speed Transmission.

The record runs were also completed on an unprepared runway surface using standard production tyres rather than specialised drag-racing rubber.
The Jesko Absolut produces up to 1177kW when running on E85 fuel, equivalent to 1600hp, making it one of the most powerful road-legal production cars ever built.
According to Koenigsegg, software changes developed for the record attempt will be made available to existing owners through an over-the-air update.
The company believes even quicker acceleration records could eventually fall to its upcoming Gemera hypercar, which combines a twin-turbocharged V8 with electric motors and all-wheel drive for a combined 1715kW.

For now, however, the Jesko Absolut sits atop the production-car quarter-mile and half-mile record tables.
That level of performance doesn't come cheap. The Jesko Absolut carried a list price of around US$3.4 million when new (~NZ$5.8 million) before taxes and on-road costs.
Production of the Jesko range is limited, with all build slots understood to have been sold out well before customer deliveries began.
