Lexus New Zealand has confirmed recall notices for two V8 performance cars regarding a potential fuel pump issue.
The notice concerns certain Lexus GS F and RC F models from 2014 to 2022. Both models are powered by the same ‘2UR-GSE’ 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine.
Lexus New Zealand confirmed to CarExpert that a total of 90 NZ-new vehicles have been impacted by the recall; 40 RC Fs and 50 GS Fs.
According to the notice, a faulty impeller in the fuel pump system can swell and subsequently force the fuel pump to stop working, which can lead to numerous engine issues.

“The subject vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump, located in the fuel tank, that supplies fuel to the fuel injection system through use of an impeller,” reads the notice.
“The material in this impeller may swell sufficiently to interfere with surrounding components, potentially causing the fuel pump to become inoperative, when it is exposed to high fuel temperatures and high concentration of aromatic fuel components during operation.
“An inoperative fuel pump under these conditions may result in illumination of check engine and master warning indicators, engine no start, and/or vehicle stall. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, there is an increased risk of a crash.”
Owners of impacted vehicles will receive a letter requesting they make contact with their nearest Toyota dealership to arrange repairs to the fuel pump free of charge.
