Mazda New Zealand has confirmed range details for the all-new Mazda 6e – the Japanese brand’s first new full electric model since the MX-30 launched in 2021.

The Mazda 6e will arrive with a single, top-of-the-range ‘Takami’ grade and one battery option. New Zealand’s version will mirror the top-spec models offered in Australia and the UK.
Energy will be stored in a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a claimed WLTP driving range of 560km. The battery will also support DC fast-charging at up to 195kW, allowing a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in around 24 minutes.
The Mazda 6e features a single electric motor mounted at the rear axle – making it Mazda’s first new rear-wheel drive model since the RX-8 – producing 190kW of power and 290Nm of torque.

Following in the footsteps of the popular Mazda 6 sedan and station wagon, the 6e represents a new generation in this lineage, with smooth, flowing exterior styling a modern take on the now-discontinued range.
New Zealand's Mazda 6e models will features 19-inch wheels, frameless doors, and bold signature lighting on the front grille that illuminates and ‘flutters’ when the car is charging, also indicating the charge status of the 6e from a distance.
However, unlike the petrol-powered Mazda 6, the 6e will only be offered as a five-door liftback. A fully electric SUV – the Mazda CX-6e – based on the same platform will follow and is expected to arrive in New Zealand before the end of 2026.

Mazda 6e models arriving in New Zealand have had their suspension, steering, and braking tuned by Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt, Germany, with the engineering team promising an engaging driving experience suited to Kiwi drivers and local roads.
At the rear of the 6e, a new lamp design and horizontal tail-light bar provide a fresh look from the former petrol models. Mazda has also replaced the traditional brand badge with lettering. Another new feature is an electronically extending rear spoiler, which is said to enhance stability at speed.

Inside, New Zealand-spec Mazda 6e models will feature a panoramic roof, Nappa leather seats with artificial suede inserts, a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and an augmented-reality head-up display.
The Mazda 6e is due to launch in New Zealand in spring 2026. Full specification and pricing of the new EV is expected to be announced in the coming months.
