The hottest-ever version of the Cupra Leon hatchback is returning to New Zealand, with the facelifted 2026 Cupra Leon VZ Hatch due in local showrooms from late September.
After previously disappearing from the local lineup, the front-wheel-drive performance hatch will be offered in two limited edition models, priced from $79,990 plus on-road costs.
Cupra New Zealand says the Leon VZ Hatch returns following strong customer demand, despite the broader decline of the traditional hatchback segment.

New Zealand buyers will have a choice of two variants.
The Leon VZ Hatch Pantera Edition is priced from $79,990 plus on-road costs, featuring 19-inch matte black alloy wheels, black exterior styling accents, Moon Slate leather bucket seats, a Sennheiser premium audio system, panoramic sunroof and adaptive suspension.
Stepping up to the Stealth Edition, priced from $81,990 plus on-road costs, adds an exclusive matte paint finish.
The updated Leon also receives Cupra's latest styling, including revised front and rear designs, quad exhaust outlets, dark chrome interior accents and a technology-focused cabin.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 239kW of power and 420Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an electronic VAQ front differential lock.
Cupra claims the Leon VZ Hatch can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds before reaching a claimed top speed of 270km/h.
The hot hatch rides on the Volkswagen Group's MQB Evo platform, shared with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and features Adaptive Chassis Control, which continuously adjusts the suspension to suit road conditions, while progressive steering is designed to deliver sharper responses.

"The return of the Leon VZ Hatch highlights our commitment to delivering vehicles that prioritise driving emotion and individuality," said Cupra New Zealand National Sales Manager Clinton Baird.
"We know there is still strong enthusiasm for performance hatchbacks, and this is a great example of how Cupra continues to do things differently, bringing exciting, design-led and performance vehicles into the market."
Cupra says the Leon VZ Hatch draws inspiration from the brand's touring car program, including the Leon VZ TCR race car, while limited global production is expected to make the model relatively exclusive in New Zealand.

The Leon VZ Hatch follows a string of special-edition Cupra models introduced locally, including the Tribe Edition range, as the Spanish brand continues to focus on performance-oriented and limited-production vehicles.
The new Leon hatch also joins the brand's current range of perofmace VZ models, including the Formentor, Terramar, and Leon Supertourer station wagon.
Customer deliveries of the 2026 Cupra Leon VZ Hatch are scheduled to begin from the end of September.
