Chinese brand Forthing have launched in New Zealand with their first model, the Taikon mid-size SUV offered with both 'Super Hybrid' or full electric powertrains.
The Taikon is similar in size to the Toyota RAV4 and will now compete with other plug-in hybrid and electic SUV models like the Haval H6, MG S5 EV and Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid.
The range opens at $39,990 plus on-road costs for the Taikon Super Hybrid Luxury, rising to $44,990 for the Super Hybrid Exclusive. Electric variants start from $42,990 for the Taikon EV Luxury and extend to $47,990 for the flagship EV Exclusive.
The Forthing Taikon is now on sale in new dealerships located in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.

The Forthing Taikon range is backed by a seven-year, 200,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year, 200,000km battery warranty, and seven years of roadside assistance.
Forthing has yet to announce service pricing.
The Taikon has achieved a five-star VSSR safety rating in New Zealand. Independent ANCAP testing is expected to be completed later this year.
