Chinese brand Forthing has expanded its New Zealand retail footprint just three months after launching locally, adding dealerships on Auckland's North Shore and in Tauranga.

From July 1, 2026, Winger Motors North Shore and Ebbetts Tauranga have joined the Forthing network, increasing the brand's authorised sales and service presence to six locations nationwide.

The additions follow Forthing's April launch, when it opened dealerships in Central Auckland, Hamilton, Lower Hutt, and Christchurch.

Forthing currently offers the Taikon mid-size SUV in New Zealand with a choice of Super Hybrid and battery-electric powertrains, available in two trim levels. Pricing starts from $39,990 before on-road costs.

Forthing says the new locations are part of the expansion strategy outlined when the brand entered the New Zealand market.

"We always said the initial four locations were just the beginning," said Forthing NZ general sales manager Todd Groves.

"Adding Winger North Shore and Ebbetts Tauranga is a clear signal that Forthing is here for the long term and that we're serious about making our vehicles accessible to Kiwis wherever they live and work.

"The Bay of Plenty and Auckland's North Shore are significant markets, and we're excited to be part of them."

The North Shore dealership is located on Wairau Road, while the Tauranga operation has opened on Cameron Road before moving into a dedicated Forthing showroom on Third Avenue in August.

Winger Motors North Shore dealer principal Paul Govind said the arrival of Forthing comes as more customers consider electrified vehicles.

"With more North Shore drivers considering hybrid and electric options, the Forthing Taikon delivers strong value, great features, and competitive pricing," he said.

"It adds another quality choice backed by the experience our team has built over 95 years. We think it will be a great fit for the North Shore community."

Ebbetts Tauranga dealer principal Julian Clements said the brand would appeal to buyers looking for value in the medium SUV segment.

"The Taikon is a great fit for buyers who want genuine value without compromising on style or technology, and we think it'll resonate strongly with Kiwi families looking for a smart alternative in the SUV space," he said.

The company says additional models are due to arrive before the end of 2026, with further product expansion planned from 2027.
