BMW M2 CS priced above M3 as it lands in NZ, $50k M2 Track Pack announced

Pricing for the BMW CS has been revealed on the company's NZ website, just as a hardcore track-focused package is released overseas.

The competition version of BMW's M2 will be priced above the M3 sedan as the first models arrive in New Zealand.

While official pricing hasn't reached our inbox, the M2 CS window sticker has been revealed on BMW's local website. The first examples are listed with a recommended retail price of $206,900 excluding on-road costs.

That would price the M2 CS a not-so-insignificant $57,000 more then the standard M2 ($149,900) and $9,700 more then the M3 sedan ($197,200). But unlike the M3, the M2 CS is a two-door coupe and rear-wheel drive only. It's also only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission, where the regular M2 can be had with an auto or six-speed manual.

The M2 CS - short for Competition Sport - is a limited-run, track-focused model that follows on from the release of the M4 Coupe, and M3 SC Sedan and Touring station wagon in 2025.

It sits 8mm lower than a standard M2, and can be spotted with visual cues like a blacked-out kidney grille, carbon-fibre mirror caps, red CS badges, gold alloy wheels and a unique carbon-fiber diffuser and ducktail spoiler in the rear.

It also features a carbon-fiber roof, said to save an additional 30kg. Altogether the CS weighs in with a 1700kg kerb weight, 80kg lighter than a standard manual M2 and 105kg lighter than an automatic version.

In the cabin, the M2 CS features even more carbon-fibre in including adjustable M carbon bucket seats, dashboard and centre console.

The M2 CS is powered by the same engine as the standard M2, BMW's 'S58' 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol six-cylinder, which is used widely across the majority of their M range.

However in CS trim, the engine receives a bump in power and torque, up from 353kW and 600Nm in the standard M2, to 410kW and 650Nm in the CS. That means it provides only slightly less punch then the M3 and M4 CS, while weighing 76kg and 55kg less respectively.

BMW M2 M Performance Track Kit for M2 and M2 CS

If you're a current M2 owner looking for an even more track-focused tune, or if the M2 CS doesn't look serious enough, you're in luck.

BMW have just released the M Performance Track Kit for both models, giving you factory upgrades to set even faster lap times at your next track day, but it's going to cost you. Announced in Germany, the kit will be available from July 2026.

The Track Kit lowers a standard M2 by 20mm (12mm for the CS) and adds a manually adjustable front splitter. The new front aero works with a new wheel-arch defuser and air scoop beneath the turbocharged inline six-cylinder's oil-cooler, said to deliver faster cornering.

The Track Kit also features a 'swan neck' rear wing, which BMW says is also used on the M4 GT3 race car that won the Bathurst 12-hour last year. The Track Pack adds a 'Race Mode' which sees the rear wing move 50mm back, while in 'Street Mode' it levels out, this makes the Track Pack road-legal (in Germany, at least).

Some major upgrades then, but they also come with a major price tag. The Track Pack costs €25,500 (NZ$50,162) plus taxes in Germany.
