Mazda New Zealand has confirmed pricing for the all-new Mazda 6e, with the brand’s first new battery-electric vehicle since the 2021 MX-30 due to reach local showrooms in September.
The electric liftback will arrive in a single flagship Takami variant, priced from $58,990 before on-road costs and premium paint options. The sharp pricing means the new electric Mazda will under cut the Tesla Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive by almost $5,000 - or $6,710 when delivery and order fees are included - while also being priced under the equivalent BYD Seal Premium by $7,000.
The 6e marks more than the Japanese brand's return to the EV market in New Zealand. It’s also the first model developed alongside Mazda’s Chinese joint-venture partner, Changan Automobile, which supplied the platform that underpins both the 6e and the upcoming CX-6e SUV.

Model | Price excluding on-road costs and premium paint options |
|---|---|
Mazda 6e Takami | $58,990 |
Rather than offering multiple variants or battery choices, Mazda New Zealand has chosen a simplified approach centred on one highly specified model already sold in markets including Australia and the United Kingdom.
Power comes from a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 190kW of power and 290Nm of torque.
Mazda claims the rear-wheel drive sedan can travel up to 560km on the WLTP cycle, while DC fast charging at up to 195kW can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 24 minutes.

The new EV also revives rear-wheel drive passenger car architecture for Mazda for the first time since the RX-8, while carrying on the lineage of the outgoing Mazda 6 sedan and wagon range in a new form.
Unlike the previous petrol-powered Mazda 6, however, the 6e will be offered exclusively as a five-door liftback.
Mazda says New Zealand-bound vehicles have also received region-specific tuning, with suspension, steering and brake calibration work carried out by Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to better suit local road conditions.
Standard equipment on the Takami includes 19-inch alloy wheels, frameless doors, and an illuminated front light signature that doubles as a charging status indicator.

At the rear, the 6e adopts a full-width tail-light design and replaces the traditional Mazda badge with script lettering. An electronically deployable rear spoiler is also fitted to improve high-speed stability.
Inside, the Takami features a panoramic roof, tan Nappa leather upholstery with artificial suede inserts, a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and an augmented reality head-up display.
Mazda will also introduce connected vehicle functions through its smartphone app, including Bluetooth Key Sharing, allowing owners to grant access to up to three additional users either permanently or for a set period.

The 6e will be covered by Mazda’s Mazdacare ownership program, which includes a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, five years or 100,000km of scheduled servicing at no additional cost, and roadside assistance.
An eight-year, 160,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery is also included.
The 6e will arrive shortly after the launch of the next-generation CX-5 and ahead of the Mazda CX-6e electric SUV, which is due in New Zealand before the end of 2026.
