Mazda New Zealand has confirmed the first local details of the all-new Mazda CX-6e electric SUV ahead of its launch later this year.
The battery-electric SUV will be offered in New Zealand as a single, highly spec’d Takami trim level, mirroring the strategy used for the related Mazda 6e sedan due here beforehand. It will also arrive after the new-generation CX-5 arrives in local showrooms.

Both upcoming electric models share the same underpinnings and battery pack, with the CX-6e using a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering a claimed WLTP driving range of 468km.
By comparison, the lower-slung 6e sedan delivers a claimed WLTP range of 560km from the same battery, aided by its more aerodynamic body shape.
Mazda says the battery supports DC fast charging at up to 195kW, allowing for a 10 to 80 per cent top-up in 24 minutes.
Power comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 190kW of power and 290Nm of torque. At launch, there will be no all-wheel drive CX-6e offered locally.

The styling of the CX-6e adopts what Mazda describes as a ‘Soulful Futuristic Modern’ evolution of its Kodo design language seen with the rest of its petrol-powered SUV lineup.
The body features illuminated front lighting signatures, aerodynamic air ducts integrated into the D-pillars, 21-inch alloy wheels, and digital side mirrors.
The digital side mirrors – a first for a production Mazda – use exterior cameras feeding OLED displays mounted inside the cabin. Mazda says they provide a 30 per cent wider field of view compared with conventional mirrors, while also improving aerodynamic efficiency.
The SUV rides on a 2902mm wheelbase, placing it slightly above the CX-60 in size, though below the seven-seat CX-80.

Inside, the CX-6e features a 26-inch ultra-wide display spanning the dashboard with split functionality for driver and passenger information.
A head-up display is standard, while the Takami grade also receives a full-length glass sunroof, illuminated trim details, digital side mirrors and a digital rear-view mirror.
Boot space measures 468 litres, expanding to 1434 litres with the rear seats folded flat. There’s also an 83-litre front storage compartment under the bonnet.

Two interior finishes will be offered in New Zealand, with buyers able to choose between black Maztex synthetic leather or a black and Oyster White colour combination.
Mazda New Zealand says pricing and full specification details will be announced closer to launch, though expressions of interest are already open through its dealer network.
