LDV dumped by distributor: Inchcape axes another brand from NZ market

LDV will have to find a new distributor in New Zealand if its to continue in our market after Inchcape confirmed it will end its partnership with the Chinese commercial vehicle brand.

The announcement comes just one month after Inchcape confirmed it would also cease distributing KGM – formerly SsangYong – in New Zealand, continuing a shake-up of its local brand portfolio.

In a statement, Inchcape said the move followed a review of its operations, with the company deciding LDV no longer aligned with its long-term strategy.

"As part of Inchcape's standard approach to portfolio management, we continuously review our partnerships to ensure we have the right portfolio of brands for our business aligned with our strategic growth objectives.

"As a result, the decision has been made to end the distribution partnership for LDV in New Zealand, with the final date to be confirmed following a transition period."

Inchcape said SAIC-owned LDV will announce its future distribution arrangements for New Zealand "in due course", with both companies working together to ensure a smooth handover.

The company stressed support for existing customers will continue throughout the transition.

"During the transition period, service support remains unchanged and customers are encouraged to contact their local LDV dealership for stock availability, with current customer orders delivered as planned."

LDV currently has a network of 10 dealerships across New Zealand, stretching from Auckland to Dunedin.

Its local lineup includes the Terron 9 and T60 utes, D90 large SUV, and four Deliver commercial van models. The brand was also preparing to launch two new electric vans later this year.

It's not yet clear who will take over distribution of the brand in New Zealand, though Inchcape said the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) will provide further details once arrangements have been finalised.

Despite the loss of another franchise, Inchcape said it remains committed to the New Zealand market.

"Inchcape remains committed to the Australian and New Zealand markets with our brand portfolio offering a range of vehicles designed to meet the needs of local customers."

The news comes a day after CarExpert revealed Fiat is suspending passenger vehicle sales in New Zealand.
