Nissan confirms local update, fresh pricing for X-Trail SUV

Nissan's quiet achiever X-Trail gets mid-life refresh and revised pricing for 2026.

Nissan’s quiet achiever mid-size SUV, the X-Trail, has received a mild update for the 2026 model year — and a host of pricing adjustments to boot.

The new X-Trail has officially gone on sale in New Zealand. The 2026 is most easily identified by its sleek new iteration of Nissan’s ‘V-Motion’ front grille and new 18- and 19-inch wheels.

Nissan has also introduced a host of changes inside, including a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen (up from the 8.0-inch unit featured in its predecessor’s base trims) that hosts wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

“With fresh style and new features that enhance driver awareness, our latest X-Trail builds on its long-standing reputation for go-anywhere practicality, which has seen the nameplate amass more than 27,000 sales since its arrival in New Zealand,” said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director, Nissan Oceania.

“Now, with longer service intervals for e-Power models, the 2026 X-Trail delivers an even stronger proposition for our valued customers.”

In its release, Nissan notes that X-Trail ST-X (shown in the lead image) trims and above will come with a 3-dimensional 360-degree camera as standard, featuring a swipeable render of the car and a ‘Skeleton Hood’ view. Both bits of tech help with navigating narrow roadways and avoiding obstacles.

Powertrains across the line-up carry over from the pre-facelift model, meaning there is a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder making 135kW/244Nm and the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder e-Power hybrid. The latter combines a smaller combustion engine with three electric motors, for a combined output of 157kW.

Nissan does not provide a combined torque output for its e-Power grades, but notes that its front-mounted electric motor makes 330Nm, its dual rear motors make 195Nm, and the 1.5-litre petrol engine makes 250Nm.

Like its Mitsubishi Outlander sibling, the X-Trail is also available with seven seats. However this is exclusive to the ST and ST-L AWD trims.

Along with these updates, Nissan has adjusted its X-Trail pricing. The entry-level ST two-wheel drive is priced from $45,990 plus on-road costs, $4000 more than runout editions of its predecessor, but $2000 less than the outgoing ST cost when it was first launched to market here.

At the other end of the range, the Ti-L petrol and Ti-L e-Power are priced from $60,990 and $64,990 respectively — each $2000 less than the previous full retail price of the outgoing Ti-L petrol and Ti-L e-Power.
