Quicker and cheaper: Updated Polestar 3 detailed

High-tech electric Polestar 3 EV gets big update for 2026, arrives at dealers in August.

The local arm of plug-in specialist Polestar has announced the latest wave of updates for its halo electric SUV, the Polestar 3, ahead of its arrival in Kiwi showrooms in mid-August.

Launched locally in late 2024, the Polestar 3’s first update brings more power and improved battery tech to the low-slung performance SUV.

The biggest change is the adoption of 800-volt architecture, leading to improvements in the Polestar 3’s power output and battery capabilities.

The luxo-EV now comes with DC fast charging at speeds of up to 350kW, enabling charging from 10–80% in as little as 22 minutes. Polestar boasts that the flagship grade of the 3, the Performance, now develops 500kW (120kW more than its predecessor) as a direct result of the new architecture.

It’s not just about the architecture, though. The 3 benefits from a new rear motor unit and new chassis tuning that includes updates to its suspension set-up, front end anti-roll bars, and steering calibration.

“The upgraded Polestar 3 is a major step forward for our brand in New Zealand,” said Polestar New Zealand brand manager, Bruce Fowler.

“It combines the design, performance and technology expected of a flagship SUV with meaningful improvements in charging speed, computing power, and day-to-day usability.

“For customers seeking a premium electric SUV without compromise, Polestar 3 sets a new benchmark.”
