Special edition Mini Cooper revealed, confirmed for NZ

Mini unveils special edition model that pays tribute to its British roots.

The local arm of Mini has confirmed that it has secured a small allocation of the new Cooper Oxford Edition, with the shipment set to touch down locally in Q4 of this year.

In a press release, the marque said just eight of the special edition models are heading our way, all of them in the same petrol-powered Cooper S 3-door bodystyle and decorated in Indigo Sunset Blue paint with a matching blue interior.

The Oxford Edition pays homage to the manufacturer’s ties to Oxford, England. The first Mini was produced at the brand’s Oxford plant almost seven decades ago, and BMW Group has been producing Minis at the same site ever since it reprised the brand in 2001.

“Mini Plant Oxford holds a central place in the heritage and identity of the Mini brand. The plant is not merely a production facility, but the spiritual home of Mini and a continuation of the brand’s British roots,” said the brand.

The Oxford Edition comes with a Union Jack on its roof, 18-inch two-tone wheels, special badging, Union Jack insignia on the steering wheel and floor mats, and branded door sills. The Indigo Sunset Blue paint and blue cabin are also Oxford Edition exclusives.

In addition, the limited run model comes with something Mini calls its ‘Oxford Capsule’ — a collection of add-ons that includes a Mini traveller bag, T-shirts, a cap, some Oxford stickers, and a Mini umbrella walking stick.

The Cooper S is powered by a 2.0-litre producing 150kW of power and 300Nm of torque. That output is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

“The Mini Cooper Oxford Edition pays tribute to the birthplace of MINI and the character that has made the brand so loved around the world,” said Alexander Brockhoff, general manager of MINI Australia and New Zealand.

“With a limited NZ allocation, this edition gives our local Mini fans a rare opportunity to own a car that celebrates both the brand’s British heritage and its spirit of individuality.”

Mini’s local arm has not detailed pricing for the model.
