Volvo has increased production of the full electric EX60 after the model's debut was met with stronger-than-expected demand in its home market and parts of Europe.
Early orders for the new mid-size SUV have been “considerably higher” than anticipated in Sweden, where it is offered with three years of free home charging. The carmaker says orders have also been significantly higher than that of the EX30 small SUV when it launched in 2023, a car offered at a lower price and in a high-volume segment of the European market.

This is noteworthy as so far order books for the EX60 are only open in select markets across the European continent. The model will only be offered in other overseas markets like America, Australia and here in New Zealand later this year.
No local launch date has been locked-in yet but the model is confirmed to arrive locally in 2026.
Details of New Zealand's EX60 model range are still to be confirmed but Volvo Cars New Zealand said in January that a version with a WLTP cycle 810km of range will be available here.

Arrival of the EX60 will follow on from the local launch of the Volvo EX90, the brand’s latest full electric seven-seat SUV.
The EX90 is expected to land in New Zealand dealerships later this month with two model grades - the EX Plus Twin Motor AWD from $149,990 and EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance AWD from $159,990, both excluding on-road costs.
The Ultra model features a 106kWh battery and dual motors delivering 500kW of power and 870Nm of torque, enabling a range of up to 600km WLTP. No detail on New Zealand’s EX model have been released yet.
The EX90 has already received a five-star Euro NCAP rating and was one of the highest performing vehicles the organisation tested in 2025, supported by a suite of cameras, radar and sensors the brand says creates a “real-time 360 safety shield.”

Winner of the 2025 World Luxury Car of the Year, Volvo New Zealand say the large SUV will set a new standard in safety, design, technology, and sustainable manufacturing when it lands. They also say the new model will be supported by “continuous” over-the-air updates.
"Together, the EX90 and EX60 represent a stepchange for Volvo in New Zealand,” said Daile Stephens, Volvo Cars New Zealand Brand Manager.
"Customers here are choosing brands that lead with safety, sustainability and genuine long-term value and Volvo delivers all three. With demand growing across the country, the arrival of these new EX battery electric models will only accelerate the momentum we’re already seeing.”
